Home automation pricing confuses more new customers than almost any other part of our business — quotes we've seen elsewhere range from ₹15,000 to well over ₹5,00,000, and without context those numbers mean nothing. The difference isn't markup; it's scope. Here is what each budget level actually includes in 2026, so you can pick the right starting point for your home.

Starter package: ₹15,000 – ₹35,000

This tier typically covers:

  • Smart switches for 1–2 key rooms (living room, bedroom), replacing existing switches without rewiring.
  • A video door phone for the main entrance.
  • App-based control and basic scheduling (lights off automatically at bedtime, for example).

This is the right entry point if you want to try automation in a focused area before committing further — see our guide to the first devices worth installing for exactly what to prioritise here.

Mid-range package: ₹60,000 – ₹1,50,000

This tier expands automation across the whole home and typically adds:

  • Whole-home smart lighting with dimming, motion sensors and scene control (see our smart lighting deep-dive).
  • Motorised curtains or blinds in 2–4 rooms.
  • Smart AC control so you can pre-cool rooms remotely and track usage.
  • Voice assistant integration (Alexa, Google Home) tying the above into simple spoken commands.
  • A central automation hub, so all devices are managed from one app instead of several disconnected ones.

This is where most Chennai homeowners land — enough automation to genuinely change daily routines, without the cost or complexity of a full villa build-out.

Full villa/office automation: ₹2,50,000 and up

At this level, automation stops being a set of add-ons and becomes the building's actual control layer:

  • Every light, curtain, AC zone and appliance integrated into a single system.
  • Security integration — CCTV, access control and intrusion alarms triggering automation scenes (e.g. lights on and gate footage pulled up automatically if a sensor trips at night).
  • Multi-zone climate control with scheduling per room or floor.
  • Wall-mounted touch panels alongside app and voice control.
  • Professional programming of custom scenes (e.g. a single "Away" command that locks doors, arms the alarm, and turns off everything non-essential).

This tier is common in independent villas, large apartments and boutique offices where the automation is designed in from the start, ideally alongside electrical planning during construction or a major renovation.

What changes the price within each tier

  • Brand of switches/hub — established automation ecosystems cost more than budget alternatives, but offer better long-term reliability and support.
  • Wireless vs wired backbone — wireless retrofits are cheaper and faster to install in a finished home; wired systems cost more upfront but are generally more reliable long-term and are the right call during new construction.
  • Number of rooms/zones — pricing scales roughly with the number of switches, sensors and controlled zones, not just the size of the home.
  • Integration depth — a system where security, climate and lighting all talk to each other costs more to program than isolated point solutions, but delivers far more value day to day.

A phased approach works for every budget

You do not have to choose a tier and commit to it all at once. Most of our customers start with a starter or mid-range package in the rooms they use most, live with it for a few months, and then expand once they know exactly which features they actually use daily versus which ones sounded good on paper. Because our systems are built to be expandable, nothing from an earlier phase needs to be replaced when you add more later.

Retrofitting an existing home vs planning during construction

Most of what we install in Chennai is a retrofit into a home that's already built and lived in — and this is genuinely fine for the vast majority of the starter and mid-range package. Wireless smart switches, sensors and hubs need no rewiring and can go in within a day or two with minimal disruption. Where construction-stage planning helps most is at the full villa tier: running a few extra low-voltage cables behind walls before they're plastered costs almost nothing at that stage, but adds meaningfully to a wired backbone's reliability later. If you're mid-build, it's worth a quick consultation even if you're not ready to commit to the full system yet — we can tell you exactly which conduits are worth running now.

Common questions before buying

  • What happens during a power cut? Most smart switches revert to working as normal manual switches — you don't lose basic control, only the "smart" layer, until power (and WiFi) is back.
  • Can I add more devices later? Yes — this is one of the main reasons to start with a starter or mid-range tier rather than trying to do everything at once. Compatible ecosystems let you expand room by room.
  • Does it work with my existing WiFi? In most cases yes, though larger homes sometimes need a mesh WiFi upgrade alongside automation to keep every device reliably connected — we'll flag this during the consultation if it applies to you.
  • Do I need a new app for every device? A well-chosen system consolidates lighting, climate, curtains and security into a single app and a single voice-assistant integration, rather than five separate apps for five separate gadgets.
  • How long does installation take? A starter package is usually done in a single day; mid-range whole-home setups typically take 2–3 days depending on the number of rooms and switches involved; full villa integrations are scheduled and phased individually alongside any other renovation work.

Getting a price for your specific home

These ranges are a starting point for budgeting — the actual number depends on your home's layout, existing wiring, and which rooms matter most to you. A free consultation lets us walk through your space and recommend the tier (or custom mix) that fits both your budget and your daily routine, rather than selling you a fixed package that doesn't match how you actually live.

Key takeaways

Home automation pricing spans a wide range because the scope varies enormously — from a single video door phone to a fully integrated smart villa. Start with the tier that matches your budget and priorities, and expand later; our Automation solutions are designed to grow with you.
