7 Smart Home Devices Worth Installing First

You do not need to automate everything at once. The smartest way to build a smart home is to start with the devices that deliver the most value every single day, then grow from there. 1. Smart switches

The foundation of any smart home. They turn your existing lights and fans into app- and voice-controlled devices — with schedules and scenes — without changing your fittings.

Why it's worth it: you use your switches dozens of times a day, so this is the upgrade you'll feel immediately. What to check: many smart switches need a neutral wire in the switch box, which older Indian homes don't always have. A quick check by an installer before you buy saves a return. 2. Smart door lock

4. Wi-Fi cameras

A couple of well-placed cameras with mobile alerts cover your entrances and give genuine peace of mind.

5. Motion-sensor lighting

Hands-free lighting for staircases, hallways and bathrooms — convenient, safer at night and easy on the power bill.

Why it's worth it: nobody fumbles for a switch on the stairs at night, and lights never stay on in an empty corridor. What to check: adjustable timing and sensitivity, so lights don't switch off while you're still in the room.

6. Smart curtains

Motorised curtains that open to the morning and close at sunset add a genuinely premium feel for surprisingly little.
